This protocol keeps your cold plunge water clean and safe using a chlorine-based routine. It's designed for commercial and high-volume settings, but anyone who chooses to sanitize with chlorine can follow it. If your plunge uses the built-in chiller with ozone and filtration and you change the water on the standard schedule, you typically won't need chemicals — see Cold Plunge Care & Maintenance for the simpler routine.
Water chemistry varies with your local water quality. If you're on well water, make sure you can reduce calcium levels before filling — untreated hard water can foul or damage the chiller. Use this alongside your regular cold plunge maintenance.
What you'll need
- Dazzle Amaze — oxidizer; destroys contaminants the filter can't remove.
- Mineraluxe Alkalinity Plus — raises pH and alkalinity.
- Mineraluxe Chlorinating Granules — controls bacteria and algae; raises free and total chlorine.
- Mineraluxe Test Strips — test free/total chlorine, bromine, alkalinity, pH and hardness.
After every drain & refill
Two things to remember: let the water circulate at least 15 minutes between adding each chemical (60 minutes for the most accurate testing), and always adjust alkalinity first, then pH.
- Fill the cold plunge with fresh water.
- Test alkalinity and pH with the test strips, then adjust using the tables below.
- Add 1 cap (12 g) of Dazzle Amaze.
Daily routine
Frequency may increase with heavier use.
- Test the water chemistry with the strips and adjust using the tables below.
- Wipe the water line with a sponge as it accumulates.
- Clean any hair and debris off the drain strainers.
