How often do I need to change the water?

It depends on whether you're using a chiller, treating the water with sanitizer, or using it as a standalone. All Calore cold plunges include (or come with) a chiller and filter kit, which we recommend using whenever the temperature is above freezing. Without a chiller and without sanitizer, change the water after each session. Without a chiller but with bromine and oxidizer, water may last around 7 days depending on use. With the built-in chiller cleaning system, we recommend changing the water every 2 weeks — more with heavier use.

Does it come with a cover?

Yes — a PVC cover is included. It pulls tight to the edges of the tub and keeps out leaves and debris.

How cold will the cold plunge get?

Very cold — as low as 2°C.

How long does it take to cool down / heat up?

Times vary with starting temperature, water volume and ambient air temperature. Our chiller typically cools at about 10–12°F per hour — for example, about 2.5 hours to cool from 65°F to 37°F (based on a well-insulated 100-gallon tub). Heating is faster, about 15°F per hour (roughly 3 hours from 65°F to 104°F). Larger or poorly insulated tubs cool more slowly, and below 40°F ambient the heating efficiency decreases.

Do I need chemicals to keep the water clean?

No. Our chillers include built-in micron filters and ozone generation; combined with regular water changes every 2 weeks, they don't require regular chemicals. If you leave water unchanged longer or notice it getting dirty, you can add a sanitizer or bromine to extend water life — but we still recommend changing every 2 weeks depending on use.

How does the cold plunge chiller work?

The chiller works like an air conditioner, but with water as the working fluid. Water is pumped from the tub through a heat exchanger, where its temperature drops as a refrigerant evaporates. The cooled water returns to the tub while the refrigerant is condensed back to a liquid, ready to be used again.

How much space is needed for chiller ventilation?

Ventilation is very important. Leave at least 3 feet of space behind the chiller so air can circulate and hot air can escape. If the system overheats due to poor ventilation, it will automatically shut off.

Can I install indoors?

Yes — just ensure enough ventilation for the chiller's heat to dissipate. Like an air conditioner, it expels hot air using a fan; insufficient ventilation will cause it to overheat and shut off.

Can I install my cold plunge outdoors?

Yes, absolutely. If you live in a climate with freezing conditions, follow the winterizing steps to ensure the water does not freeze.

What do I do to "winterize" it in freezing climates?

You must ensure the water does not freeze — freezing water expands and can crack the plumbing, and freeze damage is not covered under warranty. Options: (1) if you have a Heater/Chiller model, run it at all times during freezing conditions to circulate and warm the water; (2) unhook the chiller and piping, leaving the plugs in the plumbing holes to keep the water in the tub, and store the chiller and piping indoors for the winter; or (3) drain the tub.

How often do I need to change the filter?

A filter cartridge lasts approximately 12 months if regularly cleaned. Clean the filter and the strainer at the chiller inlet once a month.
