Commercial Sauna Cleaning Manual

Specifically in high volume settings where bathers are constantly using your Calore sauna, to keep your sauna clean see the below protocol we recommend. This is a protocol that we’ve seen work well for most situations. Please keep in mind that different usage volumes and environments can change the frequently and degree to which you clean your sauna.

How frequent do I need to clean my Calore sauna?

This depends entirely on the number of bathers you have using your sauna each day, the below is a "general" recommendation, ensure you consult with your local health and safety inspector and abided by local health regulations where required.

Commercial Settings (high volume, multiple bathers per day)

Hourly / Between Sessions Clean:
  • Every 2 hours, or between user sessions follow step 1 with a quick wipe down of high bacteria points.

Daily (end of day)
  • Daily ensure you Steps 1 and 4, along with leaving the door open overnight in order to air out the sauna. We also recommend scrubbing the floors (if a Calore sauna) with the Sauna Cleanser from step 1.

Weekly
  • Follow Steps 1 through 4.

Home Unit (family of personal unit at home)
  • This will highly depend on the usage, however we recommend at a minimum following steps 1, 3 and 4 monthly, along with airing out the sauna over night once a month.
  • Semi-annually follow steps 1 through 4.

Sauna Cleanser (Step #1)

Best used as a general all purpose cleaning for inside your sauna

1. Wash your sauna with a solution of 30 ml sauna cleanser and 5 liters of warm water. Wash the wooden surfaces with the sponge using protective gloves. On vertical surfaces make sure to go from top down. If dirt is embedded in the benches, you can sandpaper it in the direction of the wood fibers using the sandpaper provided in the package.

2. After washing, rinse the wooden surfaces with water and dry them carefully.

Pro Tip: Heating up the sauna speeds up the drying process.

Paraffin Oil (Step #2)

After you have used your sauna cleanser, you can then prepare to apply the paraffin oil. This is suitable for all wooden surfaces, particularly for heat-treated wood surfaces. Paraffin oil reduces the amount of moisture and dirt absorbed by the wood and enhances the shades of the wood surfaces.

1. Ensure you test the oil on the undersurface of a bench first to see how the wood shade changes and whether the new shade is what you want. Wood is always unique, and the end result can be affected by things like the age, porosity and the original shade of the surface.

2. Ensure the wood surfaces is completely dry before you start the treatment.

3. Put on gloves on to protect your hands, and slowly pour the paraffin oil onto the sponge, applying evenly over all wood surfaces inside the sauna.

5. Leave the oil to sit for ½–1 hour and then wipe the surface dry if necessary.

Pro Tip: Heating up the sauna speeds up the drying process, if you lay on the oil too thick, this can help to speed the process

Sauna Heater Cleanser (Step #3)

The sauna heater cleanser is used to clean off your heater, this is important as buildup on heating elements will occur over time, particularly if bathers are applying water to the heater in order to create the desired steam. This cleans and removing limescale from the exterior surfaces of the sauna heater and other acid-resistant materials (such as tile and porcelain). The Heater Cleaner is suitable for heaters with a stainless steal surface (Calore carried products or other heaters).

1. Use a sponge or cloth to spread the cleanser top to bottom.

2. Let sit for 10–15 min.

3. Scrub the surface clean and rinse carefully. Repeat if necessary.

NOTE: Do not use it together with chlorinated substances. Contains: Non-ionic surfactants , Sodium benzoate. pH approx. 3.

Foaming Glass Cleaner (Step #4)

The sauna foaming glass cleaner is designed for cleaning and shining glass and other hard, non-porous surfaces. Your Calore sauna will have either a window, or full glass fronts or backs which will have build up and staining from the water over time, similar to what you may see on a glass shower door. To use the foaming glass cleaner.

1. Shake the can well before each use.

2. Hold the can upright, 15–20 cm (6–8 inches) from the surface. Spray an even layer of foam onto the glass or surface to be cleaned top to bottom

3. Let sit for 1-2 min.

4. Wipe the surface clean, reapply and repeat as needed.
